Ferruccio Ferragamo’s Art Collection meets Yang Mian
The private art collection of Ferruccio Ferragamo, kept at Il Borro estate, counts a selection of artworks related to wine and its representations, as, in the area where it is located, wine has been produced for centuries, since the age of the Medici a, and still remains a fundamental part of the Estate’s activity.
It is an itinerary throughout the history of wine pictured in a special collection of artworks, made with different artistic techniques such as engraving, burin and dry point, or etching, by great masters of art history.
The collection which is constantly growing, is enriched by a great contemporary work of art by renowned Chinese artist Yang Mian, who, with his technique of breaking down the colour, has interpreted one of the masterpieces of the collection, Eduard Manet’s “Le chanteur Espagnol” (1832 – 1883).
Yang Mian’s contemporary reinterpretation of the pointilisme technique creates a new version of the masterpiece by Edward Manet, father of French Impressionism. This interesting contemporary short circuit between a Chinese artist and the nineteenth-century European avant-guarde, offers many interesting insights from past to present and viceversa: the influence of Far Eastern Art on Impressionism, the influence of Western Art History on Yang Mian’s opera, the new reading of the past tradition by both of the artists, each one in his own time, to reach a new and personal poetic difficult to place in any artistic movement.
This comparison between past and present, tradition and innovation, lies behind the decision to exhibit Yang Mian’s artwork with the original engraving by Manet coming from Ferruccio Ferragamo’s collection in order to offer a unique vision of an opposite concept.
