The same passion that inspired Ferruccio Ferragamo to buy the medieval village and surrounding lands of Il Borro in 1993 has also inspired him a few years later to create an art collection focused on wine in its many representations and the central role it has played in the history of the ancient owners of the Il Borro estate, the Medici, the Hohenlohe and the Savoia dynasties. Therefore he put together a pictorial history of the vine rendered through different techniques such as engraving, dry point and etching. Perhaps the choice of engraving was initially accidental, and it is surely still possible to find works by important artists on the market. Ferruccio Ferragamo was absolutely fascinated by this technique as it combines painting and sculpture, art, criticism and historiography.

The engravings are inexhaustible sources of information, in fact they allow us to work out the fashions and taste of a bygone era, to judge the quality of reproductions, but also to recreate the genesis of collections that are now dismembered. The collection, however, for years had been composed of a rather small number of engravings, better suited to amateurial endeavour , than to create an exhibition
gallery. The idea of a real space dedicated to art came to Ferragamo when, in 2007, he got hold of an important nucleus of engravings. They had been collected with patience and dedication by the antique dealer Marco Ceri, and Ferruccio Ferragamo wanted them at any cost, considering them to be indispensable for the completeness of his own collection.

At this point a real exhibition space was created to culturally complete the wine tasting itineray and experience. At the end of 2008 an art gallery was opened to the public where a selection of engravings from this very private collection is exhibited in rotation, proposing new themes or points of view on the history of wine. The collecting activity has increased and, through a careful monitoring of auctions, private galleries and antique dealers, Ferruccio Ferragamo has been
able to enrich his collection, which now counts over six hundred works.
