Culture and Art
Il Borro today is a place where artists, artisans and visitors share the beauty, the style and the quality of Tuscan life. The history of wine and its significance throughout the centuries is the theme of the works of art of the private collection of Ferruccio Ferragamo’s engravings. Standing out are names such as Mantegna, Durer, Aldegrever, Parmigianino, Bloemart, Rembrandt, Callot, Tiepolo, Canaletto, Fattori, Whistler, Tissot as well as more contemporary artists such as Chagall, Picasso and Warhol. Visitng the Wine & Art Gallery” located above the cellars is like traveling into Il Borro’s history, meeting the protagonists and discovering the changeovers from the Medici to Hohenlohe, to Savoia and finally to Ferragamo.

craftsmanship

The ancient settlement dating back to the year 1000 offers small but fascinating masterpieces. In the tiny church there is a rare life size photographic copy of the Holy Shroud. The reproduction of the relic, made in 1985, by Giovanni Battista Cordiglia was donated by the Savoia family (owners of the original since 1453) to the parish priest of the Church of Il Borro, Father Pasquale Mecattini. Another marvel found in the hamlet is the Nativity Scene with mechanized characters, something which thrills young and old and has always been a major attraction of Il Borro.

The cultural tour of the Estate would not be complete without visiting the artisan shops where years of know-how and respect for tradition produce unique crafted objects.
