A sustainable vision

Our commitment to a sustainable future
The growth of Il Borro is, first and foremost, sustainable growth. In 2023 we chose to join the United Nations Global Compact of which we are now a member, integrating its Ten Principles into our business strategy and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
SDGs: Global Goals, Local Actions for a Sustainable World.
Il Borro identified 5 SDGs that it helps to achieve through the implementation of good practices.

The path to decarbonization
energy
renewable
Since 2010, Il Borro has been committed to integrating sustainable solutions into estate management, gradually expanding the network of photovoltaic systems to meet energy needs. Thanks to the solar panels installed, we avoid the emission of about 1,700 tons of CO₂ each year, making a concrete contribution to environmental protection. Today, with a total annual production of about 2.4 GWh of electricity, we confirm our commitment to a more sustainable future in perfect harmony with the nature around us. Part of this energy is used to recharge our full-electric internal transportation vehicles, traveling about 35,000 kilometers per year by harnessing the solar energy produced.

Buildings at
"zero-bill"
Another step toward decarbonization is our “zero-bill” homes. These state-of-the-art facilities, designed to maximize energy efficiency, are powered exclusively by renewable sources and minimize waste through the adoption of advanced technologies such as heat pumps and geothermal heating systems.
Some of these homes are equipped with sophisticated rainwater recovery systems, which are collected in special cisterns during the rainy season and later reused to irrigate gardens. This integrated approach reflects our commitment to creating sustainable solutions in harmony with the environment and its natural resources.
Agriculture and circular economy
a natural connection to the earth
A Il Borro, the land is cultivated in full compliance with the principles of organic farming, certified since 2015, favoring natural practices in place of chemicals. Among these, the use of green manure, selected fertilization processes and integrated pest management techniques ensure a sustainable approach that is in harmony with the environment. Following the vegetative cycle, biological phytosanitary treatments, such as sexual confusion based on natural pheromones to counteract the moth, and the application of copper and sulfur to protect plants from powdery mildew and downy mildew, are carried out after budding.

In support of biodiversity
Beekeeping is an essential part of the philosophy of de Il Borro, which places the environment and the ecosystem at the center of all activities. For this reason, the estate proudly houses about 50 beehives nestled in the 1,100-hectare organic nature reserve. Queen, droning and worker bees find an ideal habitat here, contributing not only to the biodiversity of the area but also to the production of organic honey, an authentic expression of our connection with nature. The protection of biodiversity is also reflected in the management of forests, which absorb about 15,000 tons of CO₂ per year by mitigating environmental impact. The forests are enriched with water points for local wildlife and non-returnable seeding designed to promote the natural balance of the ecosystem. This daily commitment consolidates the deep connection between Il Borro and its territory.
Enhancement of
natural resources
A Il Borro, every resource finds a new life through a circular economy approach. Processing waste, such as pomace, olive pressing residues and materials from sheep, chicken and Chianina cow farms, are transformed into natural fertilizers that enrich the soil, preserving the balance of the ecosystem. This regenerated land allows the cultivation of organic vegetables and ancient grains, which give rise to flours, preserves and processed products that are an authentic expression of the land. This virtuous cycle, which reduces waste and maximizes resources, reflects our commitment to sustainable, nature-friendly agriculture.

Code of Ethics
The principles and values that characterize the culture and business model of de Il Borro today find their natural synthesis in this Code of Ethics. Alongside the safeguarding of fundamental human values and respect for the general principles of legality, honesty, integrity, transparency, impartiality, fairness, diligence, professionalism, efficiency and good faith, the Code of Ethics places the welfare of the people who work and collaborate with the Company and the Company’s responsibility to the local area in the foreground.

Our commitment to a plastic-free future
Il Borro is gradually reducing the use of plastic with the goal of eliminating it completely. This commitment involves the winery, the restaurants, the rooms and the packaging of products sold on the estate.
