Family heritage and tradition

The story of
Il Borro

The history of Il Borro dates back to Roman times, when a strategic fortress stood. In the Middle Ages, the area was the scene of conflicts between Arezzo and Florence. The castle passed in 1254 to the Dal Borro, who ruled it until 1344, then it was ceded to Florence. It returned to the Dal Borro family in 1644, with the marquis title conferred by Grand Duke Ferdinand II. After a period of decline, in 1823 it passed to Count Della Torre Hoffer Valsassina, who improved its land and the conditions of the peasants. In 1903, Borro was purchased by Prince Emanuele Filiberto, and, after historical and social events, in 1990 it became the property of the Ferruccio Ferragamo family, which restored the hamlet in keeping with traditions.

A village brought back to life between past, present and future

The restoration of the medieval village de Il Borro was initiated with the intention of revitalizing a place that combines past, present and future, respecting traditions and the environment. In 1993, Ferruccio Ferragamo purchased Borro, attracted by its nature and beauty, initiating a major recovery that involved local workers to preserve the history and structures damaged by World War II.

Restoration and Recovery
del Borgo

The restoration work has improved the quality of the landscape and gained recognition from local authorities. A journey that continues to this day thanks to the love and dedication of their children-Salvatore, CEO, and Vittoria, head of sustainability and Special Projects.

Il Borro
Today

“An act of faith that lasts over time,” is how Ferruccio Ferragamo likes to put it, who, together with his family, has revived and restored to its authentic splendor the ancient borgo de Il Borro, thanks to a meticulous restoration begun in 1993. Today Il Borro brings together different but complementary realities, from agriculture to viticulture, from wineries to art and crafts, from hospitality to catering and sports activities.

“To be aware that we ourselves are guests of this land, that therefore we must take care of it for our successors.”
